What it does

The diffuser sits over the impeller inside the pump housing. Water leaves the impeller vanes fast and turbulent, and the diffuser is what turns that speed into steady pressure before the flow reaches the volute and the discharge. When the diffuser cracks, wears at the impeller face or loses its seal, water recirculates instead of moving on, and the pump pushes less water for the same power.
