What a worn impeller looks like

Weak return flow, poor skimming and a filter pressure that reads lower than it used to are the usual signs. Debris packed into the vanes gives the same symptoms, so clear the impeller first; if the vanes are eroded, cracked or the eye is worn open, replace it.

The shaft seal sits directly behind the impeller. Replacing it during the same teardown is the difference between one job and two.
