What the diffuser does
The diffuser sits over the impeller in the wet end and converts the spinning flow leaving the impeller into steady pressure heading out of the pump. It is also what lets the pump hold prime. When it cracks, warps or wears at its sealing face, the pump becomes noisy, loses pressure and struggles to prime, and the impeller usually takes the blame.
