What a diffuser does
The diffuser sits over the impeller and shapes the water leaving it, converting the speed the impeller creates into usable pressure as the flow enters the volute. When the diffuser cracks or its sealing face wears, water recirculates inside the wet end instead of going out to the filter, and the pump loses performance without any obvious noise.
Match your pump rating
This part covers the smaller end of the range. The listing title gives 1/2 HP through 1 HP, and the detail line reads 1/2 HP full rated through 3/4 HP full rated plus the 1 HP up rated pump. Check the motor plate against both. Pumps rated above this range take the separate 1-1/2 HP through 2 HP diffuser.
Do the small parts too
The diffuser o-ring and the hex head screw that holds the diffuser in place are separate items. Both are cheap, both are already exposed once the wet end is open, and a hardened o-ring will leak past a brand new diffuser.
