Matching the right impeller
Sta-Rite builds a different impeller for every horsepower step in these pump families, and they are not interchangeable. The motor label is what decides it. This one covers two ratings at once: a 2 horsepower full rate motor and a 2-1/2 horsepower up rate motor use the same impeller.
What a worn impeller looks like
Flow falls off, the filter pressure reads low, and a heater or chlorinator that depends on flow starts throwing faults. Often nothing sounds wrong. Debris lodged in the vanes, or vane edges worn thin over years of service, quietly costs the pump a large share of its output.
While the wet end is open
Getting to the impeller means going through the seal plate, so the shaft seal is the standard companion replacement. Inspect the impeller o-ring and the diffuser at the same time rather than opening the pump twice.
