The Sta-Rite 17307-0111S is the trap cover lid assembly for the Max-E-Pro pump. It is the cover that seals the strainer pot, the chamber ahead of the impeller where the pump basket catches leaves and debris.
When to replace it
Trap covers take a beating. They are removed and refitted every time the basket is emptied, they sit in sun and pool chemicals, and they are often overtightened. The result is crazing, a hairline crack, or a rim that no longer pulls down flat. Any of those lets air into the suction side, and a pump drawing air will not hold prime, runs noisy, and moves less water than it should.
Fitting it
This is supplied as the trap cover assembly. The trap cover o-ring is a separate part, and it is worth fitting a new one at the same time so the fresh cover seals against clean rubber. Lubricate the o-ring, seat the cover square, and hand tighten. Overtightening is what cracks the next one.
