The Sta-Rite C1-271P1Z is the replacement diffuser for the Max-E-Pro series pump. It is the part that seats over the impeller inside the pump body.
What it does
The impeller throws water outward; the diffuser collects that flow and directs it into the volute so it leaves the pump as pressure instead of turbulence. A diffuser that has cracked, or whose center opening has worn open around the impeller nose, lets water recirculate inside the housing. The symptom is weak return flow that does not improve after you clean the pump basket and the filter.

The source information for this part is not consistent on horsepower. The listing title covers 1/2 HP through 1-1/2 HP, while the manufacturer description names 3/4 HP and 1 HP. Compare the diffuser you have taken out against the photographs, and check the horsepower on the motor label, before you order.
While the pump is open
The diffuser O-ring is a separate part and is the seal between the diffuser and the volute. Since the pump has to come apart either way, it makes sense to fit a new O-ring, and to look over the impeller and shaft seal at the same time.
