Why the material matters
A pump seal spends its whole life in moving water. On a salt pool, or a system running ozone, that water is harder on rubber and plastic than plain chlorinated water is. Pentair offers this set specifically for those conditions, so the seal lasts closer to its intended life rather than hardening early.
When to fit it
The first sign of a failed shaft seal is water at the joint between the motor and the pump body, either dripping while the pump runs or leaving rust and mineral marks on the motor face. Left alone, that water reaches the motor bearings and turns a seal job into a motor job.
