What the basket does
Everything the skimmer misses arrives at the pump. The strainer basket in the hair and lint pot is the last thing standing between leaves, twigs and grit and the impeller. Once the basket cracks or the mesh tears, debris passes through, flow drops and the impeller can jam.
Fitting and care
Shut the pump off, relieve the pressure, remove the trap lid and swap the basket. Seat it fully so the lid closes down onto its o-ring properly, and empty the basket regularly rather than letting it pack solid, which is what splits baskets in the first place.
