The Sta-Rite C8-58P is the trap basket for the Max-E-Pro pump. It is the genuine Sta-Rite part, and it also turns up under the Sta-Rite Dyna-Pro and Dyna-Pro E and the Pentair Pinnacle pump parts listings.

What it does

The trap basket sits in the strainer pot ahead of the impeller and catches leaves, bugs and larger debris before they can reach the vanes. Everything the basket stops is something that does not end up jammed in the impeller or the seal.

When to replace it

Baskets go brittle with age and chemicals, and the handle or the rim usually goes first. Once there is a crack or a broken section, debris passes straight through, so it is worth replacing rather than working around.
