The Sta-Rite 17351-0009 is the new style water slinger, the small rubber ring that rides on the motor shaft between the seal plate and the motor face.
What it protects against
No shaft seal stays perfect forever. When one starts to weep, the slinger spins with the shaft and throws that water outward instead of letting it run along the shaft into the motor. Without it, seal leakage reaches the drive end bearing, and a cheap seal replacement turns into a motor replacement.
What it fits
It is used across a lot of the Sta-Rite range: Dyna-Jet, Dyna-Glas, Dyna-Max, Dyna-Pro and Dyna-Pro E, Max-E-Glas and Max-E-Glas II, Max-E-Pro, Dura-Glas and Dura-Glas II, JWPA and the PLBC booster pump. It also shows up in the Pentair Pinnacle and IntelliPro VS 3050 parts breakdowns.
When to fit it
Change it whenever the motor is off the pump, particularly during a shaft seal replacement. The shaft is already bare, the part costs almost nothing, and an old slinger that has gone hard or split is doing no work at all.
