Where it is used
It appears on the Dyna-Glas and Dyna-Max diagrams and on the Max-E-Glas and Dura-Glas diagrams. Small as it is, the washer does real work: it spreads the clamping load of a bolt across a wider area so the head does not bite into the housing.
When to replace
Pump hardware lives outdoors in a wet, chemically active spot. Washers pit, swell and lose their flatness, and a washer that no longer sits flat concentrates the load exactly where you do not want it. If you have a pump apart and the hardware looks tired, replacing it is inexpensive insurance.
