Get the rating right
Pump manufacturers build the same housing in full rate and up rate versions, and the impeller is what separates them. Two pumps with 3 on the label can move noticeably different volumes of water. This is the full rate impeller, so check the rating stamped on the part you are replacing before ordering, since fitting the wrong one changes the pump curve and can leave the system either starved or overworked.
When the impeller is worn
An impeller wears from the inside. Sand and grit passing through the vanes opens up the clearances until the pump is turning at full speed while moving less water. The usual symptom set is weak returns, low filter pressure and a slow cleaner, all while the motor sounds fine. Debris packed into the vanes causes the same thing suddenly rather than gradually, so pull the impeller and look through the vanes before assuming it is worn out.

Removing the impeller means separating the seal plate and exposing the shaft seal. A seal that has been disturbed rarely reseats reliably, so plan on fitting a fresh one and a diffuser gasket during the same job.
