Quick overview

  • Genuine Pentair part The factory impeller, listed as 355043Z and also as 355043.
  • Matched to the motor Sized for 1/2 HP full rated, which is the same as 3/4 HP up rated.
  • High flow version This is the high flow impeller, not the high head one, so match it to the pump you have.
  • Fits several families Listed for Pentair Challenger high flow models, SuperFlo and SuperMax pumps.
  • Restores lost flow A worn or clogged impeller starves the whole circuit no matter how healthy the motor sounds.
  • Replace the seal at the same time The mechanical seal has to come apart to reach the impeller, so it is a false economy to reuse it.

Product details

This is the genuine Pentair impeller for 1/2 HP full rated pumps, the same motor sold as 3/4 HP up rated. It is the high flow version, and Pentair lists it both as 355043Z and as 355043.

Where it goes

The source information lists this impeller for Pentair Challenger high flow models, for the SuperFlo, and for the SuperMax. Impellers are matched to both the horsepower and the build of the pump, so check the motor label and the pump model before ordering rather than going by looks.

Why impellers get replaced

An impeller either wears or blocks. Wear opens up the clearance between the vanes and the diffuser, and flow quietly falls away over years. Blockage is faster and more obvious: hair, leaf stems and small debris pack into the vanes, and the pump runs but moves almost nothing. Either way the motor sounds perfectly healthy while the pool tells you something is wrong, which is what makes the impeller easy to overlook.

Fitting

Reaching the impeller means opening the seal plate, so the mechanical seal is disturbed by definition. Fit a new seal at the same time. It costs little next to doing the job twice.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

Which horsepower is this impeller for?
1/2 HP full rated, which is the same motor as 3/4 HP up rated. Read the horsepower and service factor off the motor label rather than going by the pump badge.
Is this the high flow or the high head impeller?
High flow. Pentair uses different impellers for the high head models, so confirm which build your pump is before ordering.
Why does the part number sometimes show as 355043?
Pentair lists this impeller both ways, as 355043 and as 355043Z. They refer to the same part in the source information.
What else should I order with it?
The mechanical seal, because the seal is disturbed whenever the impeller comes off, and the impeller locking screw if the old one is chewed.
