Why impellers get replaced
An impeller either wears or blocks. Wear opens up the clearance between the vanes and the diffuser, and flow quietly falls away over years. Blockage is faster and more obvious: hair, leaf stems and small debris pack into the vanes, and the pump runs but moves almost nothing. Either way the motor sounds perfectly healthy while the pool tells you something is wrong, which is what makes the impeller easy to overlook.
Fitting
Reaching the impeller means opening the seal plate, so the mechanical seal is disturbed by definition. Fit a new seal at the same time. It costs little next to doing the job twice.
