Pentair Challenger Pump Parts

48 products

Before ordering a Challenger impeller or diffuser, find out whether the pump is a High Flow or a High Pressure model, because the two take different ones at every size. Then read the rating the way Pentair writes it: 1F means 1 HP full rated and 1-1/2A means 1-1/2 HP up rated, and one impeller covers each such pair. The shaft seal, seal plate, front housing, lid, basket and band clamp are common to both.

Which Challenger, and which rating?

The label says High Flow or High Pressure and a rating such as 1F (1 HP full rated) or 1-1/2A (1-1/2 HP up rated). Each pair shares an impeller.

Numbers are the manufacturer's own.

About Pentair Challenger Pump Parts

Parts for Pentair Challenger High Flow and High Pressure pumps: an impeller for each full and up rated size of both, diffusers and the spacer behind them, the shaft seal, seal plate, front housing, strainer pot and lid, plastic and stainless baskets, band clamps, drain plugs, and the o-rings that seal it.

Five of the High Flow impellers are the SuperFlo's too, so they also appear on SuperFlo pump parts. The WhisperFlo and IntelliFlo have pages of their own. Every brand is on pump parts and motors, motors are on pool pump motors, and whole pumps are on Pentair pool pumps.

Two Pool School guides go with these parts. After a new lid O-ring, basket or shaft seal, how to prime a pool pump gets the Challenger running again, with each manufacturer's time limit. And before ordering a motor for the Challenger, motor or whole pump has the tests that tell a failed motor from a jammed impeller.

Questions about Pentair Challenger Pump Parts

How do I tell if my Pentair Challenger is High Flow or High Pressure?

From the model code. Pentair's parts lists start High Flow models with CF and High Pressure models with CH, as in CF-N1-1F or CH-N1-1FE, and a two speed has N2 where a single speed has N1. Listings often shorten these to HF, and to HH for high head on the High Pressure pumps. The lid, basket and front housing are shared, but the impeller, diffuser, diffuser spacer and diffuser o-ring all change between the two.

Which impeller fits my Pentair Challenger?

High Flow: 355043 for 1/2F and 3/4A, 355067 for 3/4F and 1A, 355074 for 1F and 1-1/2A, 355086 for 1-1/2F and 2A, 355093 for 2F and 2-1/2A, and 355068 for the 5 HP on 60 Hz power. High Pressure: 355147 for 1/2F and 3/4A, 355187 for 3/4F and 1A, 355369 for 1F and 1-1/2A, 355315 for 1-1/2F and 2A, 355604 for 2F and 2-1/2A, and 355544 for 3F. An E after the rating, as in 1FE, does not change the impeller.

Which diffuser goes with my Pentair Challenger impeller?

On a High Pressure pump, 355148 for 1/2F and 3/4A, 355188 from 3/4F through 1-1/2A, 355270 for 1-1/2F and 2A, and 355545 for 2F, 2-1/2A and 3F. Pentair adds that a 2F or 2-1/2A High Pressure pump built before October 1, 1992 must get diffuser 355545 and impeller 355604 together. On a High Flow pump, 355029 up to 1A, 355077 from 1F through 2A, 355094 for 2F and 2-1/2A, and 355069 for the 5 HP.

My Pentair Challenger will not prime. What should I check?

Pentair's own list: water in the strainer pot, a lid that is tight, an undamaged lid o-ring, pool water up to the skimmer, clean pump and skimmer baskets, open valves, and no air leak in the suction line. A two speed model has to prime on high speed, since low speed moves half the water. Pentair says a Challenger should prime within 30 minutes and should not run longer than that without reaching full flow.

Can I change the shaft seal on a Pentair Challenger without cutting the pipes?

Yes. Pentair's guide has you loosen the band clamp and draw the motor out of the front housing with the bracket, diffuser and impeller still on it, leaving the plumbing in place. The seal is 354545S, a 5/8 inch seal in two pieces, a spring seal and a ceramic seat that presses into seal plate 355004. Pentair warns that running the pump dry ruins the seal and starts a leak, so keep the pool about halfway up the skimmer opening.
