The U.S. Seal PS-3867 is the heavy duty mechanical shaft seal assembly, built as the upgraded version of the familiar PS-200. It uses carbon graphite, stainless steel and viton rubber instead of standard seal materials, which is why it is the one specified for commercial pools, ozone systems and salt water.
Where it fits
The cross reference is wide. The job it does
The shaft seal is what keeps pool water on the wet end side of the pump and off the motor. When it wears, water tracks along the shaft and drips out under the pump while it is running, and left alone it will take the motor bearings with it. Salt, ozone and heavy commercial run hours all shorten the life of a standard seal, so a heavy duty seal is the sensible replacement in those pools.
