Product details

The U.S. Seal PS-3867 is the heavy duty mechanical shaft seal assembly, built as the upgraded version of the familiar PS-200. It uses carbon graphite, stainless steel and viton rubber instead of standard seal materials, which is why it is the one specified for commercial pools, ozone systems and salt water.

Where it fits

The cross reference is wide. It replaces U.S. Seal VG-200, PS-200, PS-3960 and PS-1901 Silicone Carbide, along with Hayward SPX1250XZ2 and SPX2700SA, Pentair 354545, Sta-Rite 17304-0100 and 354545S, Jacuzzi 10-0002-06 and 10-1436-00, Aqua-Flo 92500151 and 92500150, Speck Pump 2920060603 and 60603-200, Astral Pool Series 1800, Arneson A-8, Baker Hydro 35B1178 and Doughboy 306-1006. It is also listed under the substitute numbers PS200 and PS1901.

The job it does

The shaft seal is what keeps pool water on the wet end side of the pump and off the motor. When it wears, water tracks along the shaft and drips out under the pump while it is running, and left alone it will take the motor bearings with it. Salt, ozone and heavy commercial run hours all shorten the life of a standard seal, so a heavy duty seal is the sensible replacement in those pools.

How is this different from a standard PS200?

It is the heavy duty version of the same seal. The faces and hardware are carbon graphite, stainless steel and viton rubber, which is why it is specified for commercial, ozone and salt water pools.

Will it fit my pump?

Check your current seal against the cross reference list. It covers U.S. Seal VG-200, PS-200, PS-3960 and PS-1901, plus Hayward SPX1250XZ2 and SPX2700SA, Pentair 354545, Sta-Rite 17304-0100 and 354545S, Jacuzzi, Aqua-Flo, Speck, Astral, Arneson, Baker Hydro and Doughboy numbers.

Does it come as a complete seal?

Yes. It is supplied as an assembly, both halves of the mechanical seal together.

How do I know the seal has failed?

Water dripping from the underside of the pump where the motor meets the wet end, or a puddle under the pad that appears only when the pump runs, points at the shaft seal.
