Pentair Dynamo Pump Parts

12 products

Have the Dynamo's horsepower and model number in hand before you order, because Pentair sizes the wet end to the motor. The 1/2, 3/4 and 1 HP pumps each take their own impeller, and a 3/4 HP needs a different bracket diffuser from the 1 and 1-1/2 HP. The strainer pot, basket, clear lid and lid o-ring are the same on every size, so those parts are the easy ones to match.

Which horsepower is your Dynamo?

The horsepower is on the motor's label. Pentair's manual gives one impeller and one diffuser to the 1 and 1-1/2 HP.

Numbers are the manufacturer's own.

About Pentair Dynamo Pump Parts

Replacement parts for the Dynamo, the above ground pump Pentair lists under both the Pentair and Sta-Rite names: the strainer pot and pot assembly, the clear lid and its o-ring, the basket, the housing body, the 1 HP impeller, the bracket diffuser o-ring, the on/off canopy switch and the three position switch for the two speed pump. Every part here is Pentair's own.

Motors are on pool pump motors, and parts for every make of pump are on pump parts and motors. Whole Dynamo pumps are with the above ground pool pumps, and parts for Hayward's above ground pumps are on Hayward Power-Flo pump parts.

Two Pool School guides go with these parts. After a new lid O-ring, basket or shaft seal, how to prime a pool pump covers a pump that sits below the water line, as the Dynamo usually does on an above ground pool. And before ordering a motor for the Dynamo, motor or whole pump has the tests that tell a failed motor from a jammed impeller.

Questions about Pentair Dynamo Pump Parts

Which impeller fits my Pentair Dynamo pump?

The one for its horsepower. Pentair lists 353002 for the 1/2 HP, 354552 for the 3/4 HP and 355122 for the 1 HP, and its manual also gives 355122 for the 1-1/2 HP. The bracket diffuser around the impeller splits the same way: 354632 on a 3/4 HP, 354633 on the 1 and 1-1/2 HP. The 1 HP impeller is the one carried here. Pentair asks for the horsepower, model number and serial number from the pump's label with any parts order.

My Pentair Dynamo pump will not prime. What should I check?

Pentair's own list: water in the strainer pot, a lid screwed down tight, a lid o-ring with no damage, pool water up to the skimmer, clean pump and skimmer baskets, every valve open, and no air leak on the suction side. A two speed Dynamo has to be on high to prime. Pentair says to switch it off if it has not primed within five minutes, and that a pump set more than 5 feet above the water will be slow to prime. The lid o-ring is 354533.

Why is water leaking between the motor and the pump on my Pentair Dynamo?

Water at that joint comes from the mechanical shaft seal or the o-ring between the bracket diffuser and the housing. Pentair lists one 5/8 inch seal, 354545S, for every Dynamo size, and warns that running the pump dry can damage the seals and let water out. The seal changes without cutting the pipes: six bolts free the motor, bracket diffuser and impeller, and the ceramic half presses into the bracket diffuser. Pentair also asks you to clean the 3/16 inch bracket o-ring, 354634, and see that it is seated before bolting back up.

Which on/off switch fits my Pentair Dynamo?

That depends on when the pump was built and how many speeds it has. For Dynamo pumps with the canopy and 25 foot cord, Pentair lists the 350444 on/off canopy switch for pumps built before April 2013, and a canopy with its own switch, 350481, for later ones. A two speed Dynamo takes the 356546 three position switch for high, low and off. Both the 350444 and the 356546 are listed here.

The lid on my Pentair Dynamo strainer pot is cracked. Do I need the whole pot?

No, the lid comes on its own. Pentair's universal Dynamo lid is 354531, with a chemical resistant version, 354113, and the lid o-ring is 354533. Pentair's manual asks you to look that o-ring over each time you clean the basket, which it suggests twice a week, and to replace it if it is damaged. Reach for the 354530 pot, or the 354103 pot assembly, only when the pot itself has cracked.

Do Sta-Rite Dynamo pumps take the same parts as a Pentair Dynamo?

Yes. Pentair publishes one Dynamo parts list, headed as Pentair and Sta-Rite replacement parts, and its catalog shows the pump under both brand names, so a number on that list fits either badge. The three position switch here is listed for the Sta-Rite Dynamo by name. Read the horsepower off the label either way, since the impeller and diffuser still follow the size.
