The Pentair 356546 is the three position toggle switch used on the Sta-Rite Dynamo above ground pool and spa pump. It is the genuine Pentair replacement part.
What it controls
Rather than a simple on and off, this switch gives the pump three selectable positions. Everything the pump does at the panel runs through it, so when the switch fails the pump can seem completely dead even though the motor is fine.
Diagnosing a bad switch
Switches on pool equipment live a hard life. Damp air, heat off the motor and years of being flicked back and forth all take a toll. If power reaches the switch but nothing passes through it, or the toggle feels loose and will not hold a position, replace the switch before you start pricing a motor. Isolate the circuit at the breaker before opening the wiring compartment.
