Pentair Challenger Impeller, 3 HP, High Pressure, 355544

The Pentair 355544 is the 3 HP impeller for high pressure Challenger pumps. It is the genuine Pentair part, the same impeller the pump left the factory with.

What the impeller does

Everything the pump achieves comes down to the impeller. The motor turns it, and the vanes throw water outward to create the flow that feeds the filter, the heater and the returns. When those vanes wear down, crack or fill with grit, the motor keeps running at full speed while the water slows, which is why a pump can sound perfectly healthy and still fail to turn the pool over.

Match the horsepower

Challenger impellers are horsepower specific and this one is the 3 HP high pressure version. Read the rating on the motor plate before ordering, because an impeller from a different rating will not give the pump the performance it was designed for.

While the wet end is open

The mechanical seal sits directly behind the impeller, so the same teardown reaches it. Replacing the seal at the same time saves opening the pump twice.
