Product details

The SuperPro B-219 is a pool pump strainer basket sold as the replacement for the Pentair Challenger baskets 355318 and R38024. It is an aftermarket basket built to the same shape as the factory part.

What the basket does

The strainer basket is the last screen before the impeller. Leaves and grit that got past the skimmer collect here, and anything that slips through goes into the wet end of the pump. A basket that has cracked, collapsed or lost part of its rim stops doing that job while still looking like it is in place.

Fitting and flow

Changing it takes no tools. Turn the pump off, open the strainer pot, lift the old basket out and set this one in. It is worth checking the pot lid o-ring at the same time, since a pump that has been running against a damaged basket is often also drawing air past a tired lid seal.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

Which pump is this basket for?
The Pentair Challenger. It is sold as the replacement for the Challenger baskets numbered 355318 and R38024.
Is this a genuine Pentair basket?
No. It is a SuperPro replacement made to fit the same strainer pot, which is why it is priced below the factory part.
Do I need tools to change it?
No. Shut the pump off, take the pot lid off, lift the old basket out and drop this one in.
Why does a cracked basket matter?
A split or collapsed basket stops screening debris, and whatever passes it goes to the impeller. It also disturbs flow into the pump, which owners usually notice as weak returns.
