What goes wrong
The volute o-ring is squeezed flat every time the housing is bolted down, and heat plus pool chemistry hardens it over the years. A tired o-ring first shows as a weep along the seam, then as a pump that will not hold prime because it is drawing air on the suction side.
When to fit one
