Product details

The SuperPro GO-KIT54-9 is the seal kit for Sta-Rite P2R pumps built after 1997. It carries the seal parts that come out as a set when the pump is opened.

The symptom

Water on the pad under the join between the wet end and the motor is the classic failed shaft seal. The seal is what keeps pumped water on the pump side of the shaft, and once it goes, the leak runs straight down onto the motor. That is why a drip is worth acting on quickly: a seal kit is cheap and a replacement motor is not.

Check the date first

Sta-Rite revised the P2R over its production life. This kit is for the pumps built after 1997, so confirm which side of that line your pump falls on before ordering. If the pump needs more than seals, a full overhaul kit covers a wider set of parts.

Sta-Rite P2R pumps built after 1997. Pumps older than that take a different kit, so check the build before ordering.
Why is my pump dripping between the wet end and the motor?
That is the shaft seal. It is the seal that separates pumped water from the motor shaft, and it is the part this kit replaces.
Do I have to replace the seal right away?
It is worth doing quickly. The drip lands on the motor, and a shaft seal is far cheaper than a motor.
Is this the same as a full overhaul kit?
