The Hayward SPX3000TRA is the seal assembly kit for the Super II pump. It is a three piece kit: the seal assembly itself, the housing gasket and the diffuser gasket, all supplied together.
What the shaft seal does
The seal rides on the motor shaft where it passes into the wet end and keeps pool water on the pump side of that opening. It is a wearing part. When it goes, water escapes between the motor and the housing and runs down toward the motor, which is why a leak there should not be left alone.
Why the gaskets are included
Getting to the seal means opening the pump, so the housing and diffuser gaskets have to come off anyway. Hayward packs replacements in the kit so the pump is put back together on fresh rubber instead of on compressed, years old gaskets that will weep again.
