Product details

The Hayward SPX0125F is the motor shaft slinger used on the Super Pump, Super II and Max-Flo families. It is a small molded plastic ring that sits on the motor shaft, and it is also listed under the number G-71.

What it is there for

Water that works its way past the shaft seal has to go somewhere. The slinger turns with the shaft and flings that water outward, away from the motor end, instead of letting it creep along the shaft and into the bearings. It costs almost nothing and it is the difference between a wet seal plate and a ruined motor.

Fitment

Hayward lists it for the Super II SP3000 and SP3000X, the Super Pump SP2600X and SP1600X, and the Max-Flo SP2800X. It also shows up in the Leslie's Hydramax II pump parts listing for models SP-LE40010 through 40019.

When to fit one

Any time the motor is separated from the wet end. If you are in there for a shaft seal, an impeller or a motor swap, put a fresh slinger on while the shaft is bare.

What does a motor shaft slinger actually do?
It rides on the motor shaft between the seal plate and the motor. As the shaft turns, the slinger throws any water that gets past the seal outward instead of letting it run along the shaft into the motor bearings.
