Product details
The Hayward SPX1700FG is the drain plug with gasket for Hayward pool pumps made after 1991. It is the genuine Hayward part and it is supplied with the gasket already fitted.
What it is for
The drain plug sits low on the pump and is what you pull to empty the volute. That happens twice in a normal year: once when the pump is winterized so trapped water cannot freeze and crack the housing, and again whenever the wet end has to come apart for service.
Why they get replaced
The gasket is the weak point. It hardens with age, and it gets pinched, torn or simply lost during winterizing when the plug is taken out in the cold and set down somewhere. Once it is gone the plug will not seal and the pump takes air, so it is worth keeping a spare with the winterizing kit.
