Product details
The Hayward SPX3000S is the lid o-ring that seals the trap cover to the strainer pot on the Super II pool pump. It is also listed under the substitute part number O-12.
The seal that holds prime
Everything upstream of the pump impeller is under vacuum, and the trap cover is the largest removable joint on that side of the system. When the o-ring under it is fresh and pliable, the joint holds. When it has flattened, hardened or cracked, air gets pulled in past it, and the symptom is a pump that will not hold prime or a basket that never fills.
When to change it
Any time the trap cover is off for another reason, look at the o-ring while it is in your hand. If it has taken a permanent set in the shape of the groove, or feels stiff rather than rubbery, replace it. It is the cheapest part on the pump and one of the most common causes of a service call.
