The Hayward SPX3020E is the seal plate for Super II pumps, also listed as SP3020-E. It is the molded plastic plate that bolts between the motor and the pump body and carries the shaft seal.
What it does
Everything the pump has to keep separate meets at this plate: wet volute on one side, motor and bearings on the other. The plate holds the stationary ceramic half of the shaft seal, so if it is cracked, warped from a dry run, or the seal seat is scored, water works its way past even a brand new seal and ends up in the motor.
Fits
Hayward lists it for the Super II SP3000 and SP3000X, and it also appears in the parts breakdowns for the Heldor EZ-Flo and the Leslie Hydramax II pumps from SP-LE40010 through SP-LE40019.
Before you order
The manufacturer information supplied for this part is not consistent about horsepower. One listing gives 2 HP and 3 HP, another gives 2-1/2 HP and 3 HP. Rather than pick by horsepower, check that SPX3020E is the seal plate called out for your specific pump. While the pump is open, plan on a new shaft seal too, since it is sold separately and there is no reason to reuse the old one.
