The Hayward SPX3120AAZ is the pump housing and strainer for the Super II SP3000 and SP3000X pump series. It is the genuine Hayward part, also written SP-3120-AAZ.
What it is
This is the front half of the pump: the body that carries the suction and discharge connections and holds the strainer basket. It is the threaded version, 2 inch by 2 inch, molded in black plastic. Hayward lists it as the new style housing, so it is worth comparing it to the pump on the pad before ordering.
When it needs replacing
Housings crack at the threads, distort at the sealing face, or split after a freeze. Once the body will not hold prime or will not seal against the strainer cover, no amount of new lids and o-rings will fix it, and the housing itself has to come off.
What is not included
The strainer basket, the strainer cover and its hand knob are separate Hayward parts, so plan on inspecting those while the housing is off.
