Product details
The Hayward SPX1600R is the diffuser gasket for the Super Pump, Super II and Max-Flo pump series. It is a molded rubber o-ring, the genuine Hayward part.
What it seals
The diffuser sits over the impeller and shapes the flow leaving it. The gasket is what holds that joint tight. When it flattens or hardens, water takes the shortcut around the diffuser instead of through it, and the pump moves noticeably less water for the same amount of noise and current.
When to change it
The diffuser has to come out for almost any seal or impeller job, so this is the moment to fit a fresh gasket. A rebuilt pump that still underperforms is often a rebuild that reused a tired diffuser gasket.
