Product details

The Hayward SPX1600T is the rubber housing gasket used on Hayward Super Pump and Max-Flo pumps. It is the seal at the joint between the pump housing and the seal plate.

What it does

The gasket sits in the split of the pump and keeps the wet end sealed under pressure. When it hardens with age, takes a permanent set or cracks, water finds the seam. The symptom is usually a slow drip at the housing joint, sometimes with the pump struggling to hold prime.

Worth doing while you are in there

Any time the pump is opened for a seal or an impeller, this gasket is the natural companion part. It is inexpensive next to the housing it protects. A thin film of pool grade o-ring lubricant helps it seat cleanly; keep petroleum based grease away from it.

Why is my pump leaking at the housing?
A housing gasket that has gone hard, flat or cracked no longer seals the joint. Replacing it is the usual first fix for a weep at the seam.
Should I lubricate it?
A light film of pool grade o-ring lubricant helps the gasket seat and makes the next service easier. Avoid petroleum grease, which attacks rubber.
