Product details

The Hayward SPX1611E5 is the seal plate for the Super Pump VS variable speed pump. It is the genuine Hayward part.

What the seal plate does

The seal plate mounts between the motor and the pump housing and carries the shaft seal that keeps pool water on the wet side of the pump. Everything the shaft seal does depends on the plate being flat, uncracked and free of corrosion around the seal bore.

When to replace it

If the pump weeps from between the motor and the housing and a new shaft seal did not fix it, the plate itself is usually the reason. With the pump already apart it makes sense to fit a new shaft seal at the same time.

Does the shaft seal come with it?
No. This listing is the seal plate itself. The shaft seal is a separate part and is worth replacing at the same time while the pump is apart.
Why would a seal plate need replacing?
Age, corrosion and a hairline crack around the seal bore all let water weep out behind the impeller, and a new shaft seal on a damaged plate will leak again.
Is it a genuine Hayward part?
Yes. It is the OEM Hayward seal plate, part SPX1611E5.
