Product details

Pentair R38016 is a pump strainer basket for the Hayward® SP-1600M. Aladdin's version is B-167, which is the number you will see on a lot of parts lists for the same basket.

What the basket does

Everything the skimmer misses ends up in the pump pot, and the strainer basket is the last thing standing between that debris and the impeller. Leaves, twigs and grit that get past a broken basket restrict the impeller, cut flow, and work at the shaft seal until it leaks. That is why a cracked basket is worth replacing the day you notice it rather than at the end of the season.

Confirm your pump reads SP-1600M, which some listings write without the hyphen as SP1600M. This is a Pentair supplied basket rather than a Hayward® branded part, so match it on the basket dimensions and the part numbers if you are comparing against the basket you have.

Which pump does this basket fit?
The Hayward® SP-1600M. The listing also carries the model written without the hyphen as SP1600M, and both refer to the same pump.

When should a basket be replaced?
When it is cracked, split, warped or missing pieces. Any of those lets debris pass into the impeller, and a warped basket will not sit properly under the lid.
Why does a broken basket matter?
Everything the basket misses goes into the impeller and past the shaft seal. Leaves and grit there cause loss of flow and eventually a seal or impeller failure that costs far more than the basket.
