The Hayward SPX1600D is the square strainer cover lid for the Super Pump. It is the genuine Hayward part, molded in plastic, and the underside is stamped SP-1600-D.
Confirm before you order
Hayward has used several strainer lids across its pump lines and they are not interchangeable. Flip your existing lid over and look for the SP-1600-D stamp on the back underside. If that is what is there, this is the replacement. It covers the Super Pump range, the SP1600, SP1600X, SP2600 and SP2600X.
What a bad lid does to the pump
The lid is part of the suction seal, not just a cover. Years of sun and chlorine make the plastic go cloudy and brittle, and a crack you can barely see is enough to let air into the trap. The classic symptoms are a pump that loses prime overnight, a strainer pot that never fills completely, or air blowing back through the returns.
While the lid is off
Look at the cover gasket and the hand knobs. Both are separate Hayward parts, both age at the same rate as the lid, and both are far easier to change now than on a second trip.
