Product details

The Hayward SPX1600S is the strainer cover gasket for the Super Pump, the rubber seal that sits between the clear lid and the strainer pot. It is listed for Super Pump SP1600X, SP2600 and SP2600X series pumps.

Why the lid gasket matters

The strainer pot is under suction whenever the pump runs. If the gasket is flat, cracked or sitting proud of its groove, the pump pulls air past the lid instead of water. The basket sits half full, flow drops and the pump loses prime, and owners usually go looking for a plumbing leak first.

Fitting it

Clean the groove and the underside of the lid before the new gasket goes in, and use a pool approved lubricant. The lubricant helps the gasket seat evenly under the lid and stops the two sticking together, which is what tears a gasket that still had life in it.

Which pumps take this gasket?

My pump keeps losing prime. Could it be this?
Very often, yes. Air drawn past a flattened or cracked lid gasket collects in the strainer pot and the pump cannot hold prime. Check the gasket before chasing bigger suction leaks.
Do I need lubricant on it?
It helps. A pool approved lubricant lets the gasket seat evenly and stops the lid sticking to it, which is what tears an otherwise good gasket.
