The Hayward SPX1600F5 is the motor mounting plate for the Hayward Super Pump. It is the genuine Hayward part, molded in plastic.
What the plate does
The mounting plate is the bracket between the motor and the wet end of the pump. It carries the weight of the motor and holds the shaft square to the seal plate and the impeller. When the plate cracks or distorts, the shaft no longer runs true, and the first thing that suffers is the shaft seal, followed by the impeller and the motor bearings.
While the pump is apart
Motor plates usually come off during a seal or impeller job, and that is the moment to look at everything the plate touches. The motor cap screws and the seal plate kit are sold separately by Hayward, and corroded hardware is worth replacing at the same time rather than on a second trip.
