The Hayward SPX5500K is the strainer cover o-ring for Power-Flo Matrix pumps in the SP1590 series, which covers the SP1591, SP1592 and SP1593. It is the genuine Hayward part, molded in rubber, with a 2-1/8 inch inside diameter and a 3/16 inch cross section.
The symptom it usually fixes
A pump that will not hold prime is almost always an air leak on the suction side, and the strainer cover is the first place to look. Once the lid o-ring hardens, flattens or splits, the cover draws air past it however tight the knob is turned, and the pot empties out.
Fitting
Take the old ring out, wipe the groove and the underside of the lid clean, and seat the new one dry or with a proper o-ring lubricant. Petroleum grease should stay away from it. If the pot has been running dry, check the lid itself for hairline cracks while you have it off.
