This is the CMP replacement strainer cover for Hayward Power-Flo pumps, part number 25306-000-020, supplied with its o-ring and sold in place of the Hayward SPX1500D2A.

Why the lid and o-ring go together
The strainer cover is on the suction side, so it does not leak water when it fails, it leaks air. A lid that has gone cloudy and crazed from years of sun, or an o-ring that has flattened and dried out, lets the pump pull air into the basket housing. The result looks like a pump that will not hold prime or a basket that never fills, and people often replace impellers and seals chasing it. Changing the lid and the o-ring together is the cheap first move.
Fitting
The old lid unscrews and the new one goes on in its place. Lubricate the o-ring lightly before seating it, and hand tighten only, since over tightening distorts the ring and undoes the seal you just paid for.
