Product details

The Hayward SPX1520BT is the housing cover with external thread for Power-Flo LX pool pumps at 1, 1-1/2 and 2 HP. Hayward specifies it for SP1520UN LX models only.

Check the thread style

Hayward has used more than one cover arrangement across the Power-Flo family, and the covers are not interchangeable. This one is externally threaded. Compare it against the cover you are taking off, and confirm your pump is one of the SP1520UN LX models, before ordering.

What it does

The cover closes the strainer housing and holds it under vacuum so the pump can prime and stay primed. It is the part that gets opened every time the basket is cleaned, which is exactly why it wears out first on a pump that is otherwise fine.

Fitting

Clean the sealing surfaces before the new cover goes on, and give the seal a light coat of o-ring lubricant. A cover that has to be forced down is usually sitting on grit or a twisted seal, not on a thread problem.

Will it fit any Power-Flo pump?
No. Hayward specifies SP1520UN LX models only for this cover.
My lid leaks. Is the cover the problem?
Only if it is cracked or distorted. More often the seal has hardened or the threads were not seated. Clean the sealing surfaces, lubricate the seal and retighten before replacing the cover.
