The Hayward SPX0710XZ5 is the housing o-ring for the Power-Flo Matrix SP1590 series pump, covering the SP1591, SP1592 and SP1593. It is also carried under the o-ring size code O-368, and it is supplied in rubber.
The seal that keeps the pump primed
This o-ring sits between the strainer housing and the pump body. It has to hold a vacuum, not just water pressure, which is why a tired one causes trouble long before it drips. When the seal hardens or takes a permanent set, the pump pulls air on the suction side, the strainer pot never fills completely and the pump loses prime.
Fitting it
Clean both faces before the new o-ring goes on, and give it a thin film of a silicone based o-ring lubricant so it seats evenly and comes apart cleanly next time. Petroleum based grease attacks pool rubber and should be kept away from it.
