Product details

The Hayward SPX0710XZ5 is the housing o-ring for the Power-Flo Matrix SP1590 series pump, covering the SP1591, SP1592 and SP1593. It is also carried under the o-ring size code O-368, and it is supplied in rubber.

The seal that keeps the pump primed

This o-ring sits between the strainer housing and the pump body. It has to hold a vacuum, not just water pressure, which is why a tired one causes trouble long before it drips. When the seal hardens or takes a permanent set, the pump pulls air on the suction side, the strainer pot never fills completely and the pump loses prime.

Fitting it

Clean both faces before the new o-ring goes on, and give it a thin film of a silicone based o-ring lubricant so it seats evenly and comes apart cleanly next time. Petroleum based grease attacks pool rubber and should be kept away from it.

Which pumps does this o-ring fit?
The Hayward Power-Flo Matrix SP1590 series, listed for the SP1591, SP1592 and SP1593.
Why are there two part numbers?
The seal is carried both as the Hayward number SPX0710XZ5 and as the o-ring size code O-368. They refer to the same part.
My pump keeps losing prime, is this the cause?
It is one of the first things to check. If the housing o-ring is flattened, cut or dried out, the pump draws air on the suction side and the strainer pot will not stay full.
Should I grease it?
A thin film of a silicone based o-ring lubricant helps it seat evenly and stops it sticking to the housing next time you open the pump. Do not use petroleum grease on pool rubber.
