The Hayward SPX5500H is the strainer housing o-ring for the Power-Flo Matrix pump. It is a molded rubber ring with a 6-1/4 in. inside diameter, and it seals the strainer cover against the housing.
The symptom it fixes
A pump that will not hold prime, or a slow weep at the clear lid, usually traces back to this ring. Once the rubber flattens or hardens it no longer seals, air is drawn in on the suction side and the pump loses prime instead of pulling water.
Fitting it
Clean the groove and the sealing face before the new ring goes in, and use a silicone based o-ring lubricant so it seats evenly and comes apart cleanly the next time the basket is emptied. Hayward also lists this ring with the Turbo Flo II pump parts.
