The Hayward SPX1500KA is the shaft seal assembly used across a large part of the Hayward above ground and mid size pump range. It sits between the wet end and the motor and keeps pool water off the motor shaft.
What a failed seal looks like
Water at the rear of the pump body while the pump is running, a drip landing on the motor, or rust running down the motor face. A shaft seal wears from running dry, from grit in the water and simply from age, and once it is past it the leak only gets worse.

SPX1500KA is listed for the Power-Flo SP1500 series, the Power-Flo LX SP1580 series, Power-Flo II and III SP1700 and SP1700UN, the Matrix SP1590, the Turbo-Flo SP2075 and SP2175, and the Leslie's Hydramax above ground pumps SP-LE40022 through SP-LE40026. Check your pump model plate against that list before ordering.
Fitting it
The seal is reached once the impeller is off, so it is the natural part to change during any impeller or seal plate job. Both halves come in the assembly and go in together, never one at a time against an old face.
