This is the Hayward strainer basket C clip for the Power-Flo Matrix SP1590 pump. It is the small plastic clip that keeps the strainer basket seated in the pump housing.
Why it matters
A strainer basket that is not held down can float or tip while the pump pulls, and once it does, leaves and grit go past it and reach the impeller. That is a blocked impeller and a stripped seal instead of a basket that needed emptying. The clip is a trivial part doing a job well out of proportion to its size.
