Product details
The Sta-Rite U109-93SS is the old style shaft seal, the version used on pumps built prior to 1998.
What the seal does
The shaft seal is the barrier where the spinning motor shaft passes into the wet end of the pump. Two lapped faces, one turning with the shaft and one fixed in the seal plate, are held together so water cannot follow the shaft out of the volute. It is a wear part by design, and it is the single most common leak on any pool pump.
Old style versus new
Sta-Rite changed this seal in 1998. Confirm the age of your pump, or compare the old seal, before you order. Fit the seal as a complete set, both faces together, and take the chance to inspect the seal plate and shaft while the pump is apart.
