The Polaris R0747800 is the genuine Zodiac made shaft seal for the PB4SQ booster pump, the pump that drives a pressure side pool cleaner.
What it does
The shaft seal is the barrier between the wet end and the motor. It rides on the rotating shaft and holds pressurized water back with two lapped faces held together by a spring. When those faces wear or get chewed up by grit, water escapes at the shaft, and it does not simply drip on the pad. It runs back along the shaft into the motor bearings, which is how a leak that costs a few dollars to fix turns into a motor replacement.
Fitting
Fit both halves of the seal new. The faces wear in as a pair, so mixing a new half with an old one puts you back where you started. Keep the sealing faces clean and dry as they go together, handle them by the edges, and check the impeller and the housing o-ring while the pump is open since they are already exposed.
