Polaris changed the PB4-60 body partway through production, and the drain plug changed with it. The serial number on the pump label is what tells you which side of that change your pump is on. This part is the one for pumps after PB120111001.
What it is for
The drain plug is how water gets out of the pump volute. It matters most at closing, when a housing left full of water can freeze and crack. It is also the part most often lost, because it comes out once a year and gets set down somewhere.
