Product details

The Super-Pro O-523KIT-9 is an o-ring kit for the key and cover of a Hayward® PSV valve, sold as the replacement for Hayward® part PSXVZ2A. It supplies the rubber that seals the valve, which is the part of the assembly that wears out while the body itself stays serviceable for years.

When you need it

A PSV valve has two places that give trouble. Water can weep out from under the cover, or it can seep around the stem where the handle passes through. Both are seal problems, and both are cured by new o-rings rather than by a whole new valve. If the handle has also become stiff and drags as you turn it, that is the same hardened rubber gripping the key.

Fitting notes

Replace both the key and the cover seals while the valve is open, since the labor is the same and the second ring is the same age as the first. Lubricate the new o-rings with a silicone based o-ring lube. Petroleum greases swell this kind of rubber and will put you back into the valve sooner than you would like.
