Hayward SX160Z1 is the tank o-ring for the Pro Series S160T sand filter. It seals the joint between the filter tank and the top mount section, which is the one place on the filter that has to hold system pressure against a removable joint.
When you need it
Water weeping or spraying from the seam where the two halves of the filter meet is the classic symptom. Over years of heat, chlorine and compression the ring flattens, hardens or splits, and once it stops sealing no amount of retightening the clamp will hold it.
Fitting it
Shut the pump down and relieve pressure at the air relief before opening anything. Clean the groove and both sealing faces properly, since grit and old ring residue will hold the new seal open. A thin film of silicone lubricant made for pool o-rings helps it seat and makes the next service easier.
