Product details

The Hayward SX202S is a sand shield, a corrugated cardboard cover that goes over the lateral stand pipe while you pour fresh sand into the filter.

Why it matters

When a filter is opened for a media change, the stand pipe sits open in the middle of the tank. Sand poured straight in will find that opening, drop past the laterals and eventually come back through the returns into the pool. The shield covers the pipe during the pour so the media stacks around it instead.

Fitment

Hayward lists the SX202S across a wide run of its sand filters, including Pro Series models S310T2, S270T2, S360T2, S140T, S144T, S180T, S210T, S220T, S230T, S244T, S270T, S164T, S166T, S245T and S190T. It is a use it and remove it item, not a part that stays in the tank.

What is a sand shield actually for?
It sits over the lateral stand pipe while you pour new sand into the filter, so the media goes around the pipe instead of down inside it.
