Product details

The Hayward SPX1091Z2PAK2 is an insert adapter that puts a 1-1/2 inch hose barb on a 1-1/2 inch male pipe thread. It is the genuine Hayward part, used where a flexible hose has to meet a threaded port on a filter or valve.

Where it goes

Hayward lists this adapter for the S240PAK1, S200PAK1, S160TPAK1 and PAK3, S160T, S190T, S164T and S166T filters. It threads into the port, and the hose slides over the barbed end.

Why they get replaced

Barbed plastic fittings live a hard life. Sun, chlorine and the pull of a stiff hose work on the shoulder of the barb until it cracks, and the first sign is usually a slow drip or a loss of prime rather than an obvious break. Swapping the adapter is far quicker than chasing the leak anywhere else.

Fitting notes

Wrap the male thread with PTFE tape, thread it in by hand and add about one more turn. Then push the hose fully onto the barb and lock it with a stainless hose clamp. Plastic ports split if they are torqued with a wrench, so stop while it is still snug.

What does this adapter connect?
It converts a 1-1/2 inch female pipe port into a 1-1/2 inch hose barb, so flexible hose can be run to or from the filter.

Do I need a hose clamp?
Yes. Push the hose all the way onto the barb and clamp it with a stainless worm gear clamp so it cannot creep off under pressure.
How do I seal the threaded end?
PTFE thread tape on the male thread is enough. Tighten by hand and give it about one more turn, because plastic ports crack if you wrench them down.
