Product details

The Hayward SX180LA is the drain cap assembly for Pro-Series and Pro-Series Plus sand filters built from 2006 to current. It threads into the bottom of the tank and seals the drain port.

Which filters it covers

Pro-Series sand filters S140T, S144T, S164T, S166T, S180T, S210T, S220T, S230T, S244T, S270T, S270T2, S310T2 and S360T2, plus the Pro-Series Plus side mount and top mount models S311SX, S311SXV and S360SX.

Why it fails

The drain cap is the part of the filter that gets handled most. It comes out every fall so the tank can be drained for winter and goes back in every spring, and the threads and the seal wear from that cycle. A steady drip at the base of the tank, or a cap that no longer tightens down cleanly, is the sign to replace it rather than keep chasing the leak with tape.

This is the 2006 and later style. Confirm the age of your Pro-Series filter, since earlier tanks used a different drain cap.

The drain cap is the first thing to check. It gets opened every fall for winterizing and its threads and seal take the wear, so a slow drip at the base of the tank usually starts there.
